2. Because Shep Smith works for a notoriously right wing conservative Republican biased news channel, and most of the viewers not only aren't aware he's gay, but would be shocked to know that he's gay.
3. Because of the current times we live in, with all the rabid hate-fed angst over same-sex bathrooms, gay marriage etc. I think it's important to know prominent gay people have always been amongst us, and always will.
