Hello,

I landed a job in the area and will be moving my family to Saint Simons Island in the near future. We have 3 children so are looking for a house to rent first. Have looked on Craigslist and Zillow, but choices are slim. Looking for something a little upscale (prob > $3000/mo). Anybody have ideas of where else to look or know anybody with something available? Thank you for any help you might offer.

Here's a reliable realty company that offers residential rentals in the area:

St Simons Island Rentals & Real Estate | Hodnett Cooper

I don't have a recommendation, but be wary of Hodnett Cooper. They have a spotty reputation for "non-vacation" rentals.

Why do say that? They have handled my and my family's properties for years, and they have always been nothing if not professional. They've been an established real estate firm in the Golden Isles for years; I rather doubt they would if they were saddled with a 'spotty reputation'.
You need to back up such accusations with facts.

"Innuendo"( A veiled reflection on character or reputation.) You can't imagine! the kind of hurt that can do to a person or business.

I had a residential rental with Hodnett Cooper for several years while I was out of state. When I returned, I found the property damaged and in disarray. Hodnett wouldn't go after the renter for the damages. They (Hodnett) left me holding the bag for a few thousand in damages. When I looked for another residential property manager, I was quick to find out that this is common with Hodnett. They focus more on vacation rentals then long-term rentals.

I suppose my story is as anecdotal as yours, so they balance each other out. Caveat emptor.

Well, that much is true, and I'm sorry that your experience was a negative one. In fairness, it's the first time I've ever heard a complaint about them.
