It will be interesting to see what they do with the property

The Kohan group is based in Great Neck, N.Y., and currently operates more than a dozen shopping malls around the country.

The transaction was marketed and brokered by SRS Real Estate Partners.

“This was an excellent opportunity to own an irreplaceable piece of real estate in Savannah along the Abercorn retail corridor,” Kyle Stonis, senior vice president for SRS Southeast Investment Sales Team said in the release.

“The buyer has the ability and experience to come in and take advantage of an excellent opportunity to add long-term value to Savannah Mall by continuing to build upon the momentum established by the previous owners.”

A call seeking comment from Mike Kohan of the Kohan group was not returned on Wednesday, but Pierce Mayson, vice-president of SRS Atlanta office said there are no immediate plans to change or renovate the southside mall. Daily operations and management are continuing as usual.

Well, the story says it's the same management, just new owners. I hope it's not been transfered to some junk real estate investor. I've always said that Savannah Mall could be totally reborn if they tore down everything between Dillard's and Target and transformed it into an open-air town center type retail development. Maybe these new folks will do that.

Interestingly, I am very familiar with one of their other malls, Chapel Hill, in Ohio. I lived there when it opened in 1967 (bought my babies their Stride rites there, boo hoo). There is a year old thread on CD about how the mall is circling the drain, so I see no reason to think that the new buyers of Savannah Mall will do anthing to change it.
