My friend moved there as she thought the climate would be better for her asthma (life long.)

Now its worse than ever. She's been sick almost every day since she's been there.

Anyone know any long time asthma sufferers there and what is their experience?

I wonder if it could be a "sick building" problem, i.e. offgassing of paint, materials, etc.

Thanks very much for any information.

Well, you pretty much answered your own question. Savannah lies in an extremely hot and humid subtropical climate. Even during the winter when temps are much cooler, humidity is still a major factor in our daily weather and mold and mildew are a big problem. On top of that, coastal Georgia and South Carolina are home to the largest tidal salt marshes on the Eastern US seaboard, and amomg the largest in the entire world. We have a very unique ecosystem that’s unlike anywhere else in the continental US, and with that comes a wide variety of plant and animal life that’s very shocking to the system if you’re not used to it.

I know this from personal experience. When I first moved down to Savannah from Atlanta, I was sick all the time. Now when I go back to Atlanta I get sick. It’s really all about what you’re imune system is used to and defensive against.

I’m not sure if pollen is a trigger for asthma, but I’ve never seen as much pollen as we have here.

For me the issue is MOLD, MOLD, MOLD. I have had some experiences where I had to walk out of a house that I was interested in buying, and have my assistant "look" for me while I stood outside. Thank god for cell phone cameras!

LOL. Do you think I should suffer alone in the business of looking at old, crappy houses that stink, are falling down and have MOLD MOLD MOLD?

Can’t you just picture someone scattering rose petals in his path? Pink, of course.

Why in God's name would your friend think this?

They need a dry, arid climate, not one filled with trees, grass & mold!

Because she didn't believe "Google is her friend"?
