We're planning on visiting Savannah the end of April or beginning of May.

We're interested in a nice to upscale hotel centrally located so we likely wouldn't need a car. We are two friends who love to travel and plan on doing many of the tours available, so again would like to be able to walk to pick up tours, to shop, to go to restaurants.

Would be interested in any and all opinions on a nice hotel, but not stuffy. Is Downtown better than Historic? We're considering the River Street Inn or The Marshall House!

Thank you for any and all information.

My two cents for what it's worth; the Marshall hotel rooms are teenie weenie. At least the one that I used to use when I first came to Savannah and my house was under renovation. BUT, the restaurant on ground level "Bistro 45" is my favorite restaurant! I go there about once a month and eat in the "bar section". Try it out for small plates in an elegant bar. The other part is the more formal type restaurant .

I like the River Street Inn better, I agree about the rooms at the Marshall are small. From River Street you can walk just about anywhere you would want to visit in a mile or less. There are plenty of cabs, carriages and such if you want to go any further or don't want to walk.

Thank you for the responses.

We're also considering the Hampton Inn on East Bay or the Holiday Inn Express right next door. We want a larger room with two beds where we can walk to just about everything. Probably won't rent a car

Either of those is a good walkable location.

If you really want a property that is centrally located in the Historic District, Bay Street wouldn't be it. However, for downtown Savannah you're talking about a pretty accessible and relatively small area. Any hotel in the Historic District will be close enough to any other part of the Historic District for you to consider it "walking distance."

^^^^ Yep, I guess if they wanted to split the difference they might want to consider the hotel associated with The Pink House restaurant. (I don't know anything about the rooms but the locations is Uber)
