Good to see the governor speak out against this..

Quote:
The governor’s office said in a statement that he has “some concerns with opening up Georgia’s pristine coastlines which he will convey to the congressional delegation.” It’s not immediately clear if he will seek an exemption from the plan to lift a ban on drilling that was imposed by President Barack Obama.

They have taken coastal Florida out of the mix, because of the importance of the coastline to tourism. I suspect some areas of the GA coast would fall into the same category, but some would not.

It's a blatant example of favoritism, as if tourism isn't important to other states. And don't think Trump's Mar-a-Lago property didn't factor into the decision.

My first thought when I heard that Florida was exempt. Seems to me that Georgia has done far more to protect its coastal ecosystem than Florida ever thought of doing. They should be rewarded for it.

Agree. The sheer percentage of protected and undeveloped coast in Georgia is hard to beat, outside Alaska. Gov. Deal has every right to protest, and the Trump ruling will likely be scaled way back. It's unpopular with every coastal southern state governor -- even very pro-Trump, "developed" S.C. has undeveloped Atlantic stretches like Daufuskie Is., Edisto Is., and the Francis Marion/Cape Romain seashore.

Excellent!~ I will be calling the Gov's office to let him know I appreciate this, and hope they seek exemption. While there isn't any oil in the Atlantic anyway, let's get proactive. Gov Deal gets things right sometimes on conservation. Good credit where credit is due. Frankly if the industry could do it right, ok fine. But the BP spill that killed workers and marred the Gulf was caused by some bean counter deciding they didn't need to replace a battery or have it checked. BP oil spill trial: Blowout preventer on Macondo well had dead battery, miswired solenoid, expert testifies | NOLA.com they can't be trusted for a long time. they lost their trust themselves. Same reason Kinder Morgan pipeline cannot be trusted to run a safe operation.
