What about the SEARCH program? I don't know if they test new students at the beginning of the year. They usually test the kids in the spring and they will be in the program the following fall. Did you try to get them into Derenne? You may want to think about that. It is an honors program. It is a small group of kids at Derenne middle. They are kept separate from the rest of the school. If you can try in February to get them into Oglethorpe middle. It is strictly lottery. You have to attend a meeting for parents at the school in order to get the paperwork to fill out. Then there is a lottery. My child didn't get in. He did get accepted to Derenne but we have moved out of state. I hear only great things about Oglethorpe.

Bartlett is converting to a 6-12 advanced learning academy beginning next year. Isle of Hope elementary added a 7th grade this year and will also add an 8th grade next year. There will be some good options.

My son is a 6th grader at Coastal and likes it, but we may transfer to Bartlett next year.

Coastal Middle is a great school & will be a greater high school. To my knowledge enrollment will be open only to Wilmington Island students 1st before any transfers are considered & after WI students are enrolled there should be no room for transfers. If you are looking for a house I know of a nice one for sale on Wilmington Island close to all the schools.

Does anyone know when Coastal Middle will become a high school? We are looking at a possible relocation to the Savannah area after the first of the year. We have a daughter in 8th grade at this time and a son in 3rd grade. Both are straight A-B students with great behavior. Unfortunately our daughter is not a great standardized tester although she does pass the CRCT (we currently live in N. GA) yearly but not with high scores. Our son is a great tester and in the gifted program at his current school. The school system in Chatham County seems extremely confusing. The magnet/charter schools seem very hard to get into and all the other schools seem to suffer in scores or they are not diverse at all. We are looking to move to the island district primarily in hopes of getting our children into good schools and need some insight as to how soon these changes will be effective. Unfortunately private school is not an option for us.
