We plan on visiting Savannah the first week of May. Can you nice folks out there recommend a nice moderatly priced motel or hotel somewhere close to the downtown historic area? We are planning on spending a couple of nights. Thanks so much for your help and suggestions. Also, how about a nice cemetery to visit?

Hundreds of hotels downtown. Probaly best to go to somewhere like hotels.com and search.

Two great historical cemetaries. Colonial Park downtown and Bonaventure a few miles east of downtown on the Intercoastal Waterway.

The promenade is about $100 a night and is located right on bay street. It is located right between city market and river street (the two places that you will want to see). The Promenade Historic Hotel in Downtown Savannah Georgia

Everything is cheap nowadays.

I like the President's Quarters B&B. Killer location and great place.

The Laurel Grove Cemetary is also very old and historical. It's the oldest "city" cemetary that is still in use.

There is also a very old Jewish Cemetary that can be seen, but I really can't describe how to get there. If you are interested, I am sure that someone would be able to help you.

I work at one of the hotels downtown so if anyone knows, it'd be me. Your best option would be a place like the Eliza Thompson House or the Marshall House. If you want a true Savannah experience, go for that. I believe their rates will start you at just above $150. I would say that is in the moderately priced category.
I wouldn't personally go to the sites such as hotels.com or expedia. They tend to give you higher rates. The only reason I would ever go to those sites is to get an idea of what hotels are in the area and then to call the hotels personally. You'll get a much lower rate that way.

But it's moderately priced, and there may be no need to visit a cemetary...as a tourist, that is!
