I knew I'd find the answers I was looking for on this forum. Thank you to everyone who wrote back, this has been very, very helpful to us. Out of fashion is not much of an issue, and I got the same vibe about staying away from the upper Largo area and Holland and White Bluff. I'll definitely check out those other subdivisions that you recommended Robin, and I'll be sure to let you guys know where we end up.

Thanks again.

Thanks again to everyone who weighed in with there thoughts and opinions on my thread (save gaflsc... not very helpful there buddy).

We took your advise and rented to start. And having been out here a couple months now, and with a chance to check out all the neighborhoods listed here, I think I now have a pretty good lay of the land.

Georgetown - mostly apartment complexes surrounded by sketchy neighborhoods. I wouldn't live there.
Windsor Forest/Berkshire Woods - mostly quite mixed race neighborhoods, which doesn't bother me, but the houses are pretty funky. Feels like your trapped in an episode of leave it to beaver.
Midtown - Probably the best location with the best houses. Anywhere from 50th to 65th. But if your basically a bubble surrounded by poor neighborhoods and crime is high.
Subdivisions South of DeRenne - (MY PICK) Kensington Park, Fairway Oaks, Twelve Oaks, etc. Perfectly located in between Southside shopping and the Downtown action, these quite maple and oak lined streets have a real community feel. The majority of houses are Patio homes (like the southside) but there are modern plots and even some craftsmen's littered throughout as well. The price is obviously going to be higher, but it's not unreasonable.

If you're thinking of moving to Savannah (metro area) you might find this helpful. In the end it is only one humble posters opinion, but one that has been formed over the better part of 4 months traveling to these areas daily/nightly for work and pleasure.

Happy hunting.

Rent close to her school until she finishes or at least for six months. You really need to learn about WHERE before you tie yourself up with a house.
hi if your looking to buy or rent you want to live on the out skirts of the city. Chatham county school district will be best, also the following cities would best suit you you will still be close to tybee island, hilton head atlanta and other ATTRACTIONS Pooler, Bloomingdale,Gardencity,
