HI!
Is there anyone out there in the Education field in Savannah who can give me the current outlook on getting hired as a Elementary School Teacher in Savannah? My application and resume are already in and accepted by CO but I have been reading about the situation on SavannahNOW and other online publications about job loss and restructuring of school personnel. Is it really as bleak as it sounds? I'll be moving soon and after 23 years of teaching, I never dreamed that a teaching job would be so hard to find!
Does anyone have tips (or connections) on getting hired?

Have you thought about the private schools as well? There are plenty of them.

Yes and no. My biggest concern with going private is health benefits.

I may be wrong, but I don't think the regular classroom teacher is going to have problems finding a position. The people that are being cut are the specialty teachers and the support personnel. There are regulations concerning the number of students per teacher that will keep the classroom situation fairly stable. There will be some cutting of teacher aides, paid days off, and things like that.

It's just a little hard to tell whether budget problems are as dire as the Media reports. We are making some big changes in the school line ups with trying to eliminate some of the Middle School and busing problems. This makes everything sound worse especially with the obvious budget problems.

Two different problems, two different solutions. It's just unhappily being done at the same time.
