I'm looking for info on savannah. I am a single female originally from louisville,ky but have been living on phoenix az for past 6 years. My daughter and her family are military and being stationed at Ft Stewart this fall. I want to relocate with them but I am concerned about the remarks regarding crime, jobs and racism. I am an RN and have not yet procured employment in savannah. We are also a bi-racial family and my young grandson will be attending public schools. I don't think they will live in the city proper, more likely closer to base. Coming from louisville I have missed the south and the more laid back lifestyle. Phoenix is a rat race and we certainly have more than our share of crime. Can anyone give me some objective info please??

Racism and crime exist everywhere, not just in Savannah. That's doesn't mean that all people are equally racist nor is crime equally bad in all areas. You can't predict where and when you might find it -- REALLY.

That being said, find yourself a job first and decide on the commute distance/time you're willing to endure. I haven't heard that many good things about Hinesville, though some people seem to like it. Richmond Hill is relatively close to Ft. Stewart and Savannah. Problem with living there is you'll always need to commute for something except maybe groceries and gasoline.

Savannah is a medium large city with a fair diversity neighborhoods. In general, the less it costs to live somewhere (with the exception of downtown and Ardsley Park) the more likely you'll be living in a higher crime area. Moderate income, middle class neighborhoods, in general, are a good bet for affordability and lower crime.
