The government is to scrap its controversial £30 voluntary ID card system in favour of having every child born in the UK implanted at birth with a free radio frequency-based (RFID) identity marker.

The plan is part of a £100bn 10-year project to put the UK at the forefront of post-internet information technology. It will lead to new grid-based network technology, new information processing and storage systems for "pervasive computing", and new massively parallel programming techniques, the government said.

I think it was Hillary that was in favor of this?
To track people from birth to death and illnesses or something like that. Anyone fill in more on this?

Big Brother tracking me?...Not for me or my kids, thank you. Britain seems to have a bit of a privacy problem....Cameras everywhere, and now this!

It's been approved in the US as well, but I hope on a voluntary basis. Feds approve human RFID implants | The Register

Just wait till those things start causing cancer. As for Great Britain, I think they have really ruined their system. No guns, can't own a home, cameras everywhere, high taxes....seems like the direction the USA is going in!

Unfortunately, I believe you are correct. Sad that a country like ours built on freedom is on the road to slavery.

1. Is this expected to be mandatory? I might be tired but I didn't read anywhere where it was required.

2. Are the citizens of the UK ok with it?

Chips have been around for a while and they have been approved for humans in the US as well. Now having them mandatory is a whole different matter. As a parent though, there is something very tempting about the idea of having my child microchipped. Would want it taken out at 18 though.

I love the UK. Have lots of aunts, uncles, grandparents, cousins, etc. that own their own homes. Nope they can't have guns but in the US taxes are about as much and short of the military, we don't get nearly the benefits that they do.

Forget "might." It was just a joke. Click the link at the bottom of the original story which says "Read more on the Editor's blog."
