Hi All

I'm coming to Seattle from SD soon & I'm looking to find an apartment before I arrive. From what I've experienced so far, it aint no picnic as most rentals have a 6 month to 1 year lease and/or go very quick. Also, many listed online are over-priced.

I'm looking for a 1 bedroom w/ month to month terms in the city or even the suburbs. But nothing over 20mns from the city.

Anyone have any suggestions or resources on where to look?

I thought about using an agent....

I too am moving to the area soon. I'd suggest not trying to score an apartment before seeing it and being there physically. Just stay at a cheap hotel for a few days till you can work something out. Having foot to ground and being able to finish the deal in person is what will work the best for you.

Craigslist has tons of stuff. Depends on what you have to spend. And how good your credit is. But renting before you get here, "site unseen" is pretty risky if you ARE able to find something using that method.

We found the best way to find an apartment is to walk the streets in the neighborhood you want to live in. The apartments seem to go quickly bit there is still a lot of vacancy. Most apartment buildings have a sign out front listing vacancy with the managers number. Craigslist is also good for room rentals or private rentals ie finished basements and share houses.

The apartment books and related print materials are a waste of time.

We negotiated our first month rent free and free parking. Good luck.
