I'm surprised. The difference between Resident and Non-Resident tuition is a lot less than I ever expected, at least at the community college's.

Hi sjvirchow,

Good for you for even trying to plan ahead and looking to move to where you want to live. PNW is a lovely area and I am sure that you will land on your feet no matter where you end up as you seem very focused and a planner. Good luck.

Boo to all the snotty remarks towards your post from others. Give it up people and try and be nice! Where is your sense of community? A young man trying to set his way in the world and this is the welcome? Wow.

Bellevue Community College has the best IT courses. Some are very expensive, but they prepare you for high-paying careers. the UW is very competitive, and not really geared to Network Administration / Telecommnications. That is more of a Community College certificate program.

Most community colleges in the Seattle area are not geared to high-end jobs, they are heavy into remedial and English-as-second-language students, which is why I'm suggesting BCC. It has much more technically advanced programs than the others.

The UW is more about programming, systems analysis, business applications, which is a different track from Network Administration. Thirty years ago, network administrators could advance into programming and then management, but IT is much more specialized now.

As a former hiring manager in the IT field, DON'T!

90% of HR departments in the PNW will toss out an ITT resume because the quality of education is so low. They're among the worse in degree-Mills, and the worse by far in the IT world.

It's Bellevue College now. Seems kind of weird since I've been used to calling it B.C.C. for a long time.

B.C. also has the most transfers to UW, if the OP is interested in transferring there.

How's the cost of living in/around Bellevue? I probably wouldn't live right in Bellevue, but close enough to the transit system.

Bellevue is one of the most expensive areas around Seattle. Honestly, if there are colleges with offerings in Nebraska, I would stick with it there. This side of the state is not cheap. I live in Olympia, so I can't give you too much detail about anything up north, but if you are looking at South Puget Sound C.C. then you might consider living in Tenino or Rochester to save money. That being said, you would need to get some sort of transportation as the bus service to these areas would be limited. But the living would be a lot cheaper than Olympia. Last I checked, an apartment ran around $700+ around the college.

I think if you are really considering a career in computer science you should look at the us news rankings and apply accordingly.

An expensive college education may not sound like a good idea right now but it will pay dividends for the rest of your life. I would highly suggest looking and Seattle University or UW compared to a community college. Both of their programs are nationally ranked and you would have critical access to recruiters from day one.
