Does anyone know where I can rent a car with a manual transmission? I need it for just one day.

Thanks.

Guess the big question is why you need a manual transmission? If it's to teach someone to drive it, guessing the rental company would need to make sure the 'student' was properly licensed and old enough to drive a rental.

I've been renting cars several times a year for decades and I've never seen one at a national chain (not saying they might not have them, but I've never seen it). One place that does come to mind is these guys:
Car Rentals, Cars For Sale, Aero Rent-A-Car, Bellevue Washington

A friend of mine rented their BMW convertible. They have limited milage and probably charge a bit more, but their cars aren't a standard model that they buy by the hundreds. You could call them and find out at any rate.

Another option may be to call some car dealerships. Most of the big ones will rent out their loaners for a day to a prospective client (you will likely have to indicate that you wish to rent it because you might consider buying one in the future). It's possible that they might have a manual available.

believe me, if you know how to drive a manual, you won't have much trouble driving an automatic. I made the switch years ago and would never go back.

Kayela, thanks for the lead. They're only three miles away from me so I'll check them out.

I had manual transmission cars from 1979 through 1996, and since then I've been able to hop into one and drive it without any problems. However, I'm soon heading to a high performance driving school and the cars there are all manual transmission, so I was wanting to practice up a bit before trying to heel and toe as I'm braking hard from 150 MPH. Pedal confusion would be bad at that point.

Thanks, everyone.

How about motorcycle rental? There are some around. Virtually all are manual transmission.
