I lived in Eastern Washington for 3 months during the summer of 2010. Its not that bad, at all. It is very hot, but there are a TON of outdoor activities you can do and the mountains are only 1.5 hours from the Tri-cities. I wouldnt have a problem taking a drive over for a day or two and doing some items in a couple of months.

I don't think the midwest looks at all like Eastern Washington, though. I mean, Kansas does, but Missouri east does not at all.

My goodness. I feel like so many people are so doom and gloom about Seattle weather and cost of living. We are in the Twin Cities and everything seems so expensive. Is Seattle really that bad?

If you think the Twin Cities are expensive, then yes, you'll definitely think Seattle is expensive. Seattle seems to be on par with the north side of Chicago for cost of living.

We moved to Maple Valley from Streamwood (west of Chicago) at the end of March! So far though, besides thunderstorms, the only thing I miss from Illinois are friends and family.

Were you really "in" Chicago? Or did you have business in the suburbs? That's not a reaction most people get the first time they go to Chicago..

Obviously it's my personal opinion but Chicago >>>> (x4) Seattle.

Socially and structurally Chicago is superior to Seattle, and it's population is way bigger which increases the odds of having a more interesting population. It's easier to make friends there. But in terms of natural landscape and weather, Seattle is way better and that's often the first reason people move here.

I was IN Chicago, as in Washington Park area for most of my time (Univ. Chicago engagement).

How in the world does Chicago socially compare to Seattle? Really? Please explain to me what that means.

I heard ambulances all week, all day and all night. There were literally 6 shootings within .5 mile block from me.

Other than that I went downtown and to a couple of other spots. Overall, really boring (well, outside of the constant sirens).

I mean, I've been to NYC, LA, San Antonio, etc. I would say Chicago is the worst out of them all.

Sounds like you did a WHOLEEEEEEE lot (of nothing). You hang out in the most low key neighborhood in the city that barely hangs on to a lifeline (Hyde Park), and then you judge the entire city based on that? Plus what locals go to downtown to shop?

Honestly, that's almost EXACTLY like going to Columbia city and staying there and saying, oh this is what Seattle is all about. You should've just stayed in Seattle where you belong buddy. Did you check out Lincoln Park, Streeterville, Wicker Park, China Town, South Loop, Greek Town, Wrigleyville? If not then bam, hush yo face son!
