NBA panel votes to keep Kings in Sacramento | Local News | The Seattle Times

I am somewhat surprised. With Hansen running a very competent campaign and getting Ballmer on board, and the fact that Seattle is a bigger media market, I figured that the other pieces would all fall like dominoes.

I can't say that I am disappointed. I've always been a huge NBA fan but the last few years have gotten turned off. The new stadium would have been effectively taxpayer subsidized. Claims to the contrary are sleight-of-hand.

I'm listening to KJR right now and the ESPN 'legal expert' (funny that such a posts exists) says that that this is virtually a done deal--the Kings will not be coming here. And there is no NBA expansion in the cards. Seattle Sonic boosters are left hoping that they can purloin a team from a Milwaukee or Charlotte, much as OKC and Clay Bennett purloined the Sonics from us.

I would like them to still move forward with the arena and NHL. This has really turned me off of the NBA, not because I really cared to take the Kings, but the position they have taken with expansion. This is so contradictory - how they had no problem moving the Sonics to Oklahoma, David Stern and Clay Bennett knifing Seattle again, it looks deliberately hostile to Seattle. Karma will come for them big time and Seattle will come out ahead. I love this city and don't like to see it lose at anything. NHL would probably be more fun to watch anyway.

Frankly, I don't care.

The Sonics left because they didn't earn enough revenue. Also, NHL tickets are CRAZY EXPENSIVE! I mean Seahawks expensive. I think people would have had sticker shock.

I think people would be more willing to stomach NHL expensive tickets over NBA. I personally don't know too many people who want NBA back (but are more excited about the NHL prospect) and find it strange that the local news talk about the hordes of folks here wanting NBA back.

I'm glad you said that, I know I would. I have positive feelings about NHL and think it would be really fun. The NBA seems to want Seattle to dislike them intensely and they're getting their wish.

Me too. I hope Chris Hansen goes after the Phoenix Coyotes and builds an arena anyway, and markets the crap out of the team a la the Seahawks and Sounders. Make the NBA regret their decision every day!

I'm only shocked because it's an absolutely horrible business decision. I don't get it. Sacramento is bankrupt and has massive debt. And its major employer - the state - is laying people off and can't afford to pay pensions. I can see the arena plan falling through, or lawsuits filed to stop the arena due to costs. Their plan has a massive public contribution.

I don't know, the nosebleed tickets to a Bruins game are about $110.

At some point, there will come a time when Seattle plays OKC. Karma baby.

I don't know why anyone would be surprised. The NBA wanted Sacramento to build a new arena, and they are getting their wish. Seattle never had a chance despite the hard efforts of Hansen. Always seemed like a brilliant guy so I think he may have known he would be used and likely has something up his sleeve. Perhaps he is willing to go ahead with the project without a team but more likely
he'll sit on it for a few years and see what happens when Stern is replaced.
