Hi everyone. Very useful forum, thanks for all the tips I have read in other threads so far. A question of my own:

My husband is arriving mid Sept from the UK, taking up a job at UW, I will arrive mid Oct. We are looking for a short term furnished appt in the first place as we look for unfurnished rental property (we have used vrbo when coming for month residencies in the past). I have read how competitive rental places are to get (not sure if being from UK will affect all this credit checks etc). I am trying to estimate how long to arrange the furnished appt for....do you think we could realistically have found somewhere to move in to in 2 months? Realise no-one can't know for sure, but any thoughts welcome.

Thanks so much - v v excited to be heading to Seattle to live.

It depends entirely on your requirements for a long term rental- and your budget- but I do not think that sounds like an unreasonable time frame in the slightest.

Most properties come up for rent 30-60 days before desired occupancy. As long as you are willing to move fast with an agreement, it should not be a problem.

Thanks Batcat & Baba_yaga. That is reassuring and gives me a sense that 2-3 months is going to be realistic.

We are hoping to find something at around 1,500ish dollars month level, in the same places as most people (wallingford, fremont, green lake, ballard, queen anne, capitol hill, bainbridge island etc etc)......ah well the joys of flat finding, still a bit of luck and you never know!

thanks again
Gayle

Just be ready, if you find something you like, to decide fast. If it's a good spot it wont last (think hours, not days) so bring your checkbook!
