I worked in a Software Development company in technical positions in Seattle. Six years back I quit job to stay home and take care of family

I want to start working again. Since I did not work for a long time, going back to Software Development looks hard. Moreover I want to explore new areas and I prefer a part time offer. Right now I am not very particular about a specific salary. My aim is to get a job.

I do have computer skills, Math skills and I am fast learner. I am even open to upgrade my skills. I am interested in accounting or HR, but I do not have educational background in this field.

What kind of HR jobs I should look for? How to write a resume when I am looking for a job after a long gap?
Since I am good with numbers, can I look for a accounting job?

Are there any placement services which will help me?

You absolutely should look at the local Seattle office of Momcorp...our dear family friend started the company many years ago and there are now franchises all over the country. Your skill set and interests are what they look for (Allison, who started the company was in the accounting field) and their jobs, many part time or by contract seem to fit with what you are wanting to do! Their office is downtown and you can find many of their jobs listed on their national website and then narrow your search by location. I was surprised to learn that some of the positions even allowed you to work from home.

Since you've been out of the job market for a while, you will have to sorta take a step back and start all over (but not entirely). You should check out temping agencies to rebuild experience. I know Volt, Kelly, and a few others do HR staffing.

FYI having a long gap in work history on your resume is a red flag to most employers. Usually the easiest way to bridge this is by temping.
