It was bad enough that you lost your basketball team to Oklahoma City, but this I'm sure will hurt. Boeing relocating some 900 people to OKC and St. Louis from Seattle. For someone who lives here in Oklahoma, I'm happy it will boost our economy, but I feel bad for you folks in a place I love dearly. What could have been done to keep these jobs in Washington? Maybe a new governor is in order?

I wouldn't call it a loss, but being from Oklahoma....you know where most of the E-3 Sentries aka AWACS are based at right?

It is a cost saving move. Why keep the expertise here when the planes are there?

But at the same time, the 737 plant in Renton is expanding, and the've been expanding their employment rolls. Does it come out even? I don't know.

There are many valid business reasons for relocating that function, and the governor here wouldn't matter. On the other hand, the legislature needs to start working on passing a highways budget. One valid complaint for Boeing is the time it takes to truck parts in and out of their plants because of the traffic. For me it's always nice to see the trains pulling the green-plastic covered 737 fuselages down the tracks by my office in Seattle on the way to Renton.

I believe these moves were announced some time ago here. This is really more of a commercial airplanes hub for Boeing. Its defense work has been scattered all over the place for quite some time.

Boeing is spreading its manufacturing out so it has more political pull in government dealings. One of the reasons why it moved its HQ to Illinois.

Boeing is perfectly happy with our governor. All they have to do is look uncomfortable and the local and state governments start throwing tax breaks at them.

I think that it's good that Oklahoma is getting 1000 highly-educated people. It's just a small drop of blue in a deep red sea, but it's something.
