Police yawn as car thefts skyrocket - Puget Sound Business Journal

"Little outrage was heard when the FBI reported in November that our state had reached the No. 1 rank in the nation for vehicle thefts per capita. We Washingtonians are 60 percent more likely than our friends in Oregon to get our cars ripped off."

Wonder how they got to that number...because California has 8 of the top ten cities in car theft.

It's statewide per capita, CA has many more people.

Who are they stealing cars from? I don't know anyone who's had their car stolen in Seattle. And most people I know park on the street.

Cops have largely morphed into a band of grifters. I couldn't read the whole story, but the subject obviously came up because the reporter's car was stolen. This parallels the recent story by Danny Westneat about the failure of police to respond when he tracked down some people who stole his daughter's Ipod.

My question is, why does it take theft of a journalist's own belongings for them to do a story on police malefaction? Why aren't they doing investigative reporting on the general phenomenon? Why don't they ask the obvious questions when police announce the latest prostitution crackdown?

Anyway, this is what you get when you elect people like Ed Murray, Dow Constantine, and Jay Inslee: liberal democrats who are in the pockets of public sector unions, including police unions.

I've been hearing about an increase in crime in Seattle as well. It doesn't seem like the Seattle police seem to care. This is the same department that hands out Doritos to potheads.
