My family lives in Madrona. We absolutely love it here! Our neighborhood has mostly older craftsman style homes. The modern homes are scattered throughout. We have amazing tree lined streets. My house is 108 years old. The people are amazing and super friendly. We walk our neighborhood almost daily and run into a very diverse group of people. I'd say anyone and everyone would fit in just fine.

Hi Anne. Two words, Phinney Ridge. Answers after your questions:

Are there lots of families with young children or older/no kids? BOTH, laid back very welcoming mix

Do kids play outside, and with each other? Does the neighborhood organize block parties or other events? YES!

Do people socialize with their neighbors, or does everyone only wave from the car while heading in or out? We are tight!

Are people involved with the local schools? YES!

Choice as far as supermarkets (preferably organic/local)? Organic heaven. PCCs, farmers markets, Whole Foods.

activities are concerned? As many as you want or as few as you want.

I'm currently living in Shoreline, but looking to get out. Shoreline is supposed to have really good schools. Idk, my kids are grown. Around the corner & within walking distance is the Shoreline pool, rec center, park, lighted soccer fields, senior center, football stadium. It used to be the high school but they now have two just remodeled, huge high schools in Shoreline. This kind of baffles me because I almost never see children here. On Halloween we usually have 2 groups of trick or treaters. That's it!

My grandson & family live in Greenwood. He goes to Ballard. : ( The parents like it because you can walk to a lot of places to eat & the 6 year old goes to elementary school on 80th & 3rd which is one block away. Both parents work & Greenwood is centrally located. They rent & it's not too bad. They pay less than I do in Shoreline for similar houses & yards. It's not my favorite because as someone here said, 85th is a nightmare at 5 pm. So is 80th. There can be no or little traffic around their area, which is a treat, but Greenwood will be jammed. And the streets are very narrow!
