My roof is fast approaching toward the end of its useful life and I am thinking of replacing it within a year. Before I start taking quotes, I am hoping to get rough idea on estimates.
Size: 5000 Sq. ft. (50 bundles)
Pitch: 10
Existing roof: Cedar Shakes (house built in 1991) (no plywood underneath)

I am hoping to do a 50 year or lifetime (metal or concrete tiles).

Anybody got an idea (rough number of what I am looking at)

Thnx in advance

No idea on the wood shingle room cost, I did just replace asphalt shingles on my Seattle home. I had an estimate from Sears and was shocked at the high price, I researched further and found options much more reasonable. There were at least 3 online sites I found to estimate costs and used the data from the Sears estimate to punch in.

I found the best price was from Achten's.

I used to do signs/truck lettering for several roofers, and the stone coated metal shingles were running about $13,000 for a house that size, 4-5 years ago. Naturally it varies by manufacturer and area. We paid $10,000 for heartwood cedar on our house about 3 times that size - in 1996. As annoying as it is to be visited by sales people, you really need to have 3-4 come out and actually look at it to give hard quotes. Then ask for local references. You may get a better price if you do it in winter. You may also get a deal/discount at a local home show where the roofers are exhibiting.

Depends on the kind of roof you want to put on, whether you want a transferable warranty, and who puts it on for you - costs can vary significantly from roofer to roofer. Research reputable roofers in your area with a reputation for good customer service; if something goes wrong with installation, you don't want to be stuck with a roofer who's an *****hole (as what happened with one of my neighbors). Don't make price your only consideration in who you pick for the job.

Thanks folks. I am looking for Metal tiles (looks like slate) or may be the top of the line (50 yr) GAF/CertainTeed.
Also, I had a typo in original post. My roof is not 50 bundles but 50 squares....i.e. 5000 Sq.ft as i put correctly above.

5000 SF is a large roof. I'm not an expert in roofing but have had a few roofs replaced in the past. I'm thinking $25K-$30K, roofing company should be able to tell you pretty quickly. As mentioned above, get a few bids, they can vary widely.
