Hi, I will soon be moving from San Diego to Lacey for a job prospect. Since I have never lived anywhere in the Pacific Northwest, I have no idea about the area. I welcome any recommendations on good apartment communities in Lacey. Also, how good/bad is life for single, young professionals there? I researched a bit and it seems like it is quite a safe place to live (as far as crimes go) so that is taken care of. I guess it has a quiet, quaint town-like feel, please correct me if I am wrong. I would love to get some insight into how life is like, living in Lacey. Thanks in advance for all the help!

Having lived in San Diego, the first big change you will notice is the weather (obviously). You know every day it's sunny and warm in San Diego? - it's cold and gray here that many days here.

"Quiet", yes (depending on how far from I-5), but "quaint town-like feel", I'm not so sure. There really isn't a "town" there, "quaint" or otherwise, unless this is what you're thinking:

Any quaint downtown pictures you're seeing when searching on "Lacey WA" are in Olympia and Centralia...

I do have to agree with the above.

Lacey has a lot of things, but a quaint feel isn't one of them.

Lacey is more affordable than Olympia and Tumwater (the other towns in the tri-city area) without really being a high crime area.

Lacey is where the Olympia sprawled to. It goes on and on and on, without a central core or a real plan that is obvious to anyone. I hope you have a car... it's not a pedestrian kind of place.

But you can find some nice newer apartments. Most of the big national chains for shopping are there. I think downtown Olympia has some fun nightlife... I've gotten too old to know for sure any more

I went to St. Martin's University in Lacey-graduated in 2007. Check out the campus sometime, it's beautiful. Lacey feels like kind of a suburb to Olympia, they run right into each other. Shopping, apartments, schools, housing developments, there's no real downtown or anything "quaint". I would imagine it's not a bad place to live. Some slightly more run-down areas, no real crime issues. Olympia has a downtown area with a few restaurants and bars, and of course a big mall. Like the poster mentioned above, you will need a car to get around. You can also drive to Tacoma for a day trip, or Seattle or Portland for a weekend getaway.

It'll take you a while to acclimate to the change in weather, coming from San Diego.

We drive to Portland often, in fact did so last weekend. We always stop in Lacey on the way back. While it has very suburban residential neighborhoods, it also has a lot of commerce around I5. We often go to one of the restaurants for dinner, and visit Cabella's and/or Shipwreck Beads. All of the big stores are there such as Costco, Walmart, Home Depot and Lowe's plus a mall despite only about 45,000 people. It attracts shoppers from Olympia, but also Dupont and the military base. I would think Lacey would be somewhat boring for single, young professionals, you might prefer old downtown Olympia, a short 10 minute commute.

Agree with this. Was there last fall and its a pretty chill place. I believe it was about a 2 hourish drive between Seattle and Lacey.

You aren‘t gonna see as much big buildings as you would in Seattle either. I would describe the feel as spacious as compared to the city. Good Luck.
