Help! I just took a job in Kent and we will be moving across the country in just 4 weeks (we currently live in Arkansas)! We have a son who just turned 8 months and I am looking for some recommendations for daycare. We will be living in West Seattle, and I will be working in Kent, so anything along the way would be ideal.

I am looking for a center, as home daycares kind of give me the creeps (sorry!) and I don't think we can swing much over $1500 a month--and that would be pushing it. Anyone have any recommendations? I subscribe to the idea of respectful parenting, so I have been quite alarmed reading reviews about places where teachers consistently yell at children. Can I afford a daycare where my kid will be treated with respect? I can't believe I am asking such a question.

Seattle is notoriously bad for affordable child care. Even the relatively affordable Au Pair services cost about $1500/mo.

I'm finding some places (especially in Kent) that are in my price range, but I just don't know anything about them. My brother lives in town and I'm planning to send him on a few tours.

Tours are a great idea. Also check for online reviews.

Most infant care in the city have year long wait lists. You might have to find a nanny to cover you until your son can get into a nice program.

Can I afford a nanny? I just don't see how I could swing it, even with a nanny share.
