Hello
For a solid six months now I have been searching the internet for an apartment or a house to rent.
I’m 2600 miles away from home (P.N.W.) and have found it difficult at best to make positive headway
with securing contact with someone that can and is willing to help.

Places I'm looking at are Lake Forest Park, Lake City, Green Lake, Wedgwood etc.,

My income is low and do not want to spend over $600.00. I can go a bit higher for the right property and area.

Can somebody give me some advice on what resources to use to find a good rental. Help!
Thanks
Brindle

are you living alone? Have you thought about maybe getting a roommate?? 600.00 won't get you much if anything at all, by yourself, but with a roommate - maybe you both could pay $600...and get a nice 2 bedroom for $1200 a month

I found affordable housing on Craigslist.

Another option is rentnet.com. Also those big rent books I found in Fred Meyers have good listings. You can find cheap housing but for some you must fall within a particular income bracket.

Good luck in your search!

Hi, Brindle. Have you tried senior housing locations in Seattle? There is a program which is sponsored by, I think, the state which subsidizes a small percentage of apartments in many, many apartment buildings throughout the state. An individual senior has to be 62 or over and have an annual income of, I think, below approximately $25,000 if I remember correctly. I'm sorry, but I don't know the details, but you CAN find out on the site I have below.

Other state programs subsidize housing for those under 62 but also below certain income levels. If I were you, I would Google every phrase I can think of, or contact Olympia, to find such programs.

This link -- which could lead to other ideas -- is the Google search I found for senior housing in Seattle:

No I have not considered a room mate. I would have no idea where to begin selecting one that would be compatible.

You can consult:
Craigslist
and/or NWSource, the combined Classifieds for the two leading newspapers in the area: NWapartments: Seattle apartment rentals, house rental listings, rental classifieds and other property rentals in Seattle, Tacoma, Bellevue and other Washington areas, cities and neighborhoods
and/or the Seattle Weekly, the local weekly:
Classifieds (Seattle Weekly)
Since you lived here in the past, perhaps you have family, aquaintances, schools, church or other organizational affiliations, through which you can request information.

Whether or not you would want to choose a roommate from these resources, you can at least find out what that world might look like.

I used Craigslist and found a very good rental in Broadview when I was actually living outside the country.

The key is in how you seach it, what criteria you put in. Another key is to search it every single day. It changes that fast. If you have no one here to vouch for you, you will have to pay a big deposit for the first year.

If you have been gone for several years, you will find rents have gone way up while you were away. For 600, you can only get a studio and then not very close in.
