Yes, it's also a quick hop to Fremont, but prices sure are on a different level.

If I were a bus rider and renting in Seattle there is no way I'd live in Ballard or Fremont over Northgate for twoce the price, I'd be doing exactly what you are.

Paying twice the price living in Ballard or Fremont isnt worth the money. And yes i am a bus rider.

I expect that rent increases are going to slow in the central areas. (Not decrease though) I work in tech and not everybody who works for a tech company can afford 3k a month rent. There's more vacancy signs around Capitol Hill, especially in the newer buildings, so the high end may be seeing some softening.

In capital hill i have seen alot of older buildings built in the 1920s offering reduced rents.

I feel really sorry for my old friends amd x girlfriend struggling in the san fernando valley region of los angeles,California unable to find a one bedroom apartment for less than $2,000 a month. A friend of my moms has a son in woodland hills,California paying $2200 a month for a basic one bedroom apartment.

In northgate seattle i pay $1200 a month for a one bedroom with a washer and dryer inside the unit. Currentlyy landlord is charging $1300 a month for units silar to mine now.
I see apartment rent prices will continue to rise in the Seattle area.

I expect this to create more demand and higher rent in outlying areas, with longer commutes.
Wrong destination if your skills are down at minimum wage level. The country really needs more training so that people earn enough money for moderately priced housing. Nobody seems to build anything but upscale.

Seattle is creating much of its housing price problem.

A developer recently bought a piece of land for something around $100,000 per future unit. A few years ago half of that price would have been amazing. The huge price is because only 15% of the city allows multifamily, and most of the sites with willing sellers are taken.

So god forbid we allow accessory units in single-family areas, small areas of upzones, and so on.

Rezones in the U District etc. will help but on nothing like the scale we need.
