I know it's a long shot, but is there a grocer in Seattle that has crawfish? I've received a request for etouffee, and crawfish would be a real treat

We actually have local crawfish (Signal Crawfish) in our lakes and rivers that are nearly as big as lobsters, and taste more like lobster. Very few people are aware of this, I researched them after seeing some while fishing in Pine and Beaver Lakes in Sammamish. The Fish Store at Pike Place Market has them sometimes. The problem is not many commercial licensees going after them, maybe a dozen, and most go to the better restaurants serving them, like Crawfish House in White Center.

Try Ranch 99, there are seafood asian grocers with large seafood sections in Little Saigon (Jackson/King&12th), a grocery on BeaconHill & 15th, and I think I've seen cooked packages at RedApple at 23rd. I've seen crawfish at each place, at times.

So, I'd try Little Saigon area first (you're not uncomfortable in going to an Asian store, are you?) then down Rainier to Ranch 99 (near IKEA).

My wife is Cajun so I actually have had to find it. If you're making an etouffe, you can use the pre-peeled frozen crawfish. I've bought louisiana crawfish at the Roosevelt Whole Foods. It's in the frozen meat section.

Enjoy!

Oh, this is wonderful! I had no idea there was a native species here! The PNW just keeps getting better

Leastprime, thank you for the suggestions - I will check them out.

That's what I was looking for - I would prefer to not boil and peel them. Thank you!

Ranch 99 has always had live crawfish every time I've been there.

Louisianan here and I'm curious also.

Last time I got crawfish I brought back 10lbs on ice on the plane with me from Tony's (those of you who know Tony's)

Everyone's eyes in the back half of the plane lit up. They were all like "if we crash, we're stealing your crawfish"
