Hi Momma4evr,
Thanks a lot for your honest response. Since my husband is much older than me having to drive to Seattle for a serious health emergency is a big concern for me. And the acceptance of Medicare too.

Getting a doctor is tough to find here. Took me months to find one. And he's not the best I've had.

The hospital in Pt. Townsend said a couple of years ago, that they were planning on hiring a new doctor. This, in addition to the one already there, with a busy practice. This is to accommodate all the new arrivals in the area. I don't know if they've actually done that yet, though--hired a 2nd doc. Does anyone here know?

People pay for evacuation insurance, in the case of emergencies that can't be handled in local hospitals. People in the midst of an emergency can't be expected to actually drive (or be driven) all the way to Seattle, over bridges, wait for the ferry, etc.

Since the first post my Mom's Dr. has retired and not been replaced yet, so there are much longer waits for the routine care that she gets locally.

Wow! That's a big blow, for a doctor to retire. Did they ever try the clinic the Jamestown S'Klallam tribe runs? What's that like?
