Kshama Sawant files for re-election to Seattle City Council

Surprised. I don't know a single person who supports her ideas. Does anyone truly want her around after what she's done?

Ha!! Too funny!! I truly hope that she, along with the support of her multi millionaire husband, runs again AND wins. That's the only way that Seattle will learn anything from its past and current mistakes is for all the crazed Far-Leftist/Socialist on the City Council destroy what is left of this city.

She is so far gone and doesn't see the fact that she is a true "1 percenter," the group of people she stands against... If she would convince her husband to donate 2/3rds of their total wealth to the homeless and drug addicts of Seattle. I might think different of her. Until then, she is nothing but a fake and a fraud.

She's an embarrassment.

Kshama is like A.O-C. minus the great figure which got (AOC) there.

(otherwise pointless and useless)

It's weird to see companies like Amazon getting hate from these ladies. Personally I never viewed them as a greedy corporation. The CEO donates 2 billion to charity and encourages its employees to get involved in philanthropic activities. If Amazon contributed to the homeless problem, it's only because the people of Seattle are so generous, they keep coming here.

If it were Goldman Sachs, that'd be one thing, but this is Amazon. Not exactly the symbol of corporate greed. Such politicians need to stop hating success. It's our GDP that makes these crazy new socialist policies even a slight possibility.

An investigative reporter has discovered that sawant's office is being wholly controlled by an outside group called socialist alternative, deciding who is hired and fired, and how sawant is to vote on the city council. In addition to several ethics code violations, her office refuses to use city email accounts, in an attempt to avoid public scrutiny. https://sccinsight.com/2019/01/07/sa...accountability

Despite her claim of only accepting an "ordinary workers salary" and donating the rest to a "solidarity fund" in 2017 sawant donated $13,800 to socialist alternative, which in turn paid for over $11,000 in travel expenses for sawant and her husband. Legal, but disingenuous and self-dealing. Her husband has an unknown relationship with a PAC called 15now, which sawant gives large donations to every year ($11,525 in 2017) yet isn't registered as a political organization, and its website lists no financial information, no record of any donations since 2015, and the site domain name is registered to sawant's husband.
https://sccinsight.com/2018/04/20/ks...the-self-deal/

No doubt she will win reelection in a landslide.

I'm surprised; would have guessed she would hang it up. She already has a challenger, a guy named Beto Yarce. who came from Mexico to Seattle in 2003, and heads a non-profit.

Beto Yarce announces challenge to Sawant's Seattle City Council seat

I think I heard him interviewed (hadn't heard of him before, so I didn't pay close attention to his name); if so he is a standard issue Seattle progressive.

I have been wondering the difference between 'Socialist Alternative' and 'Democratic Socialists of America' (AOC's group). I looked at the DSA web site, but haven't bothered to read up on 'Socialist Alternative.' I recall Jessica Spear, who run unsuccessfully for state house against Frank Chopp, is also 'Socialist Alternative.' Sarah Smith, who ran against Adam Smith for US House, is DSA.

Democratic Socialists of America have been around a long time, and are basically Social Democrats, not all that different than FDR was, or a lot of European governments are. Socialist Alternative is regarded as a bunch of wackjob Trotskyites, quite extreme. Incumbency has it's advantages. So I don't care if you're Democrat or Republican or Socialist or Libertarian. If you hold the position, and nothing terrible has happened under your watch, chances are you'll get re-elected. So I wouldn't say that Kshama Sawant losing is a slam duck. I wouldn't vote for her, but a lot of people have in the past. No reason to believe they're all going to turn on her now.

As somebody that is fairly conservative....she had a couple of good ideas. Unfortunately, most people in media have little background to understand basic economics.

Everybody laughed at her when she said the state of Washington should just buy Boeing instead of giving them all the tax breaks.

She was RIGHT!!

For 10 billion dollars (at that time) the state of Washington could have purchased and become the largest shareholder. The state then could have spun off those Boeing businesses located outside the state....made a ton of money on the sale and then remarketed the remaining Washington based company to investors and gotten even more money from that sale.

Chelan County did it with Rock Island Dam and Puget Power. Best investment Chelan County ever made and the dividends to the people of Chelan County over the years have been just amazing!!!

Of course, those are a bunch of Republicans that went after corporate indifference to local needs.

I don’t agree with her on much....but she nailed it on the Boeing comment. We do need folks with different ideas from the Elite establishment....both on right and particularly on the left.
