A new study released by GOBankingRates says Seattle and Bellevue made a list of 25 U.S. cities where earning $100,000 a year isn't even enough to stay afloat.

I know people who make six-figures who are living paycheck to paycheck on the East-side.

Paycheck to paycheck, payment to payment = broke.

It's cute that they took such a broad stroke brush to that "overall annual expenditures".

We are a family of four and we've never had a 6 figure lifestyle.

Seems like click bait to me. There is absolutely no data behind the 'overall annual expenditures' stat. For a family of what size? I am certain that a single person would be fine with that salary. I have no doubt that a couple with that income would have to budget their expenditures, but that's not struggling... that's just being prudent.

I think a lot of it depends on housing expenses. If you already have a home with equity, therefore a lower mortgage payment, you probably are fine. If you have moved here from another place where you had equity and reinvested to buy a place, you are probably fine. If you choose to live in modest smaller home or apartment, you are probably fine. If you are a good budgeter, you are probably fine. You can't have it all though, it's amazing how fast frequent meals out and $6 frappuchinos add up, not to mention fancy new car payments. I have a 7 year old Subaru Outback, paid off, works great.

When the median household income is $ 183,000 as in Sammamish now, there are going to be people making only $100,000 struggling to keep up with the cost of housing, property taxes, and other expenses. I know we couldn’t afford to live here if we hadn’t bought in 1993. We are now below the median but doing fine as are others in our neighborhood that bought in the 1980s-90s, some making well under $100k.

Living in a house that's too expensive and then say can only eat out X amount of times every 2 weeks.
