Good post, SR.

Just commenting on the quote above.

It's pretty scary there are people on this Earth, and in our own country who still don't know this.

Seriously, what's wrong with these people?

Do they ever read anything or just watch the mainstream media?

I'm genuinely puzzled by the last sentence. The opposite is true - you would have to NOT pay attention to "mainstream media" to not know that coronavirus can be spread by asymptomatic carriers.

I'm assuming the only "mainstream media" outlet that hasn't reported on the virus' asymptomatic spread would be Fox News, the same outlet that calls it a hoax and whose adherents are intentionally/willfully/angrily misinformed.

Also, credit Inslee, a politician, for listening to the scientists and taking early action that was unpopular at the time. He and WA State are getting deserved recognition for being a leader in this regard.

OP, naturally it's a question that many people are asking, and naturally there is no precise answer. Here is one article presenting measurable benchmarks for reopening:

* Hospitals in the state must be able to safely treat all patients requiring hospitalization, without resorting to crisis standards of care.

* A state needs to be able to at least test everyone who has symptoms.

* The state is able to conduct monitoring of confirmed cases and contacts.

* There must be a sustained reduction in cases for at least 14 days.

fnh, I wrote that sentence with a wrong meaning. I meant to say: Or they don't even watch MSM.

Yes, Inslee has done very well in this.

Well, the Prez has acknowledged that he didn't read the Covid-19 briefings (until it was too late), then continued to pooh-pah the warnings. He clearly relies on Fox News for making major policy decisions.

We can't end social distancing without the ability to test everyone with symptoms or exposure, since it would just relight the fire. If we can test everyone with symptoms, we can isolate and trace/test contacts.

Mis-informed, or care not to be informed? (what you don't know CAN hurt you in times like these).
I think USA people are generally pretty lax on seeking to understand the 'details' (i.e. qualifications of candidates, and affects of legislation).

I don't know much about 'mainstream' media.

I threw my TV away in 1968, when I was just a kid.
I had had enough 'passive entertainment'.
Tossed the TV and headed to the workshop to invent and build stuff.

Internet is next to impossible to get these days for me (since I have to rely on libraries, schools and Denny's for internet...I'm a rural USA resident, no internet available in any of my (3) USA locations) 2 could possibly be reached via satellite (very slow uploads).

Today = highest incidence of new cases in USA to date.
yes, perfect timing to STOP funding testing stations...(USA Federal funds for certain Covid-19 testing to end Friday April 10th)
Federal Support Ends For Coronavirus Testing Sites As Pandemic Peak Nears
https://www.npr.org/sections/coronav...-as-peak-nears

And they (officials(?) KNOW the Pandemic Peak is near / past?)
I am beginning to trust China more... at least their populace KNOWS they are hearing propaganda and ACT accordingly (protect themselves from their Government's agenda.)

Have had interesting conversations and emails this week with a USA older couple stuck in China on work assignment (for last 2 yrs). They are feeling 'safe', as everyone (neighbors) know the drill... "The 'Official Party members bark, residents respond accordingly (for their own interests, not for the 'party agenda").

USA has a long line of people following the 'Pied Piper' (Probably not a fable too popular to read to your USA kids anymore). Bad things can actually happen (?) Don't tell!

Have phone sex. Or you can FaceTime or Skype, even better!

Yes, he does not have the cognitive ability to deal with a grave crisis.

He is heavily influenced (like other potuses with little knowledge) by the people he surrounds himself with.
