I am currently apartment hunting and wondering if anyone knows anything about the area on Belmont Ave from E. Pine to E. Olive Street, particularly with regard to crime (assault and violent crime) and overall safety? I've heard this is considered a more sketchy neighborhood but am wondering if it is dangerous or impacted peoples' quality of life in a significant way.

Thanks in advance.

I lived at the corner of denny and olive right near there, and had another friend on summit between pine and denny. I've walked around that area at night many many times, with few problems. I'm a mid 20's male though, so take that as you will.

There is a halfway house on summit between denny and olive that always has a mob of sketchy characters smoking in front of it, I just walk on the other side of the street. There's also the occasional bum in the area that's heckled me while walking nearby. I definately would not recommend that strip for families. With that said, it IS a fun area - right in the center of everything, very near all of the clubs, dense living. Would work best if you walk mostly during the day and don't need to worry about parking.

There are a few spots around Capitol Hill that look dangerous at night but really aren't ..... there are mutant-looking young people walking around or talking in "gangs" (small groups). They look kind of scary to some, but they're harmless. Sort of like Halloween all year round.

There are also some areas around between Madison and that park by the little reservoir .... what's that place called ..... that might actually be slightly dangerous at times, but not not nearly as bad as the ghetto sort of dangerous you might find in other big cities.
