Whoa - ghastly in Alamogordo, NM, is only $1.61/gas right now for unleaded regular.
Yup. I recently paid a little over $1.50/gallon in Santa Fe.

Ghastly is only $1.50/gal in Santa Fe? Wow. I looked at a car I was thinking of buying a month ago at Fiesta Nissan of Santa Fe. We went with a 2021 Kia Soul LX 6-speed instead. The Nissan Versa sedan was the car in Santa Fe I was considering. Anyway, we're paying about half of what people in the Puget Sound are paying for ghastly.

(Which goes up and down, depending on the price of crude, world politics, and unpredictable factors.)

I know it does, but the above should not determine ghastly prices. That is ridiculous.

Only deal with a seller who's ok with you taking the car to a mechanic to check out prior to purchase. Those cars will last you a decade, easily, and quite possibly--two, with good care. They'll go to 200K miles and beyond without needing a major repair, unlike other brands.

"Good care" means regular servicing. You'll have to budget for that along with your gas & insurance costs. At some point, you'll have a couple of small repairs, like a new starter or alternator. These are pretty much worry-free cars, unlike the junker you want to ship from CA. Make sure you can afford those insurance payments, though, and the cost of gas in your area. From June 1999 to January 2015 I drove a 1999 Toyota camry. That Toyota camry was nothing but mechanical problems after the car turned 10 years old. After 16 years the toyota camrys transmission went out and I junked the car.

Toyotas aren't what they used to be in the 1980s.

Maybe a used Ford or used Chevy for me.

I should correct my statement. It is fair for the price of crude oil to affect ghastly prices, however, I don't think it makes sense that politics should affect ghastly prices.

annonymous0381 - could you afford a lower-cost new car? If you can swing the payment for one that's the way I would go. I don't like buying other's bag a bolts.

Not to be a snob but I dont trust used cars from strangers or used car lots. Im paying $500 per month on uber to get around seattle.

If i cut out using uber I can afford a car payment on a new car.

I was thinking a ford focus or Hyundai.

I like the Honda civic and honda crv as brand new cars but those are overpriced for what they are.

I just bought a 2021 Kia Soul LX 6-speed stick that had an out the door price of $18,047.30. It's worth every penny. Do you like to get your money's worth? Of course you do!

Do yourself a big favor. Buy yourself a new Kia. Or Hyundai. Both carmakers offer the Long-Haul Warranty that gives you 10 years, 100,000 mile Warranty, whichever occurs first.

They just keep getting better year after year. You can't beat a new Kia or Hyundai!
