Oh, I get it. I have also been detained & threatened, only by the Canadian border patrol. There are azzholes in every country.

One time, the friendly border guys on my way into Canada had me park the car and come inside a building for a brief interview where they also examined my cell phone text messages.

When I was allowed to go back to my car, I realized that they had opened my car trunk and taken out my laptop from its bag. Later on, when I started my laptop, it had a strange DOS like home screen. Someone later told me that the border security people can download the contents of my computer hard drive into an external device without knowing the password to log into my computer.

Other 4 times I went, no issues.

From what I'm now reading, even though we are both fully-vaccinated, we will each still need a 72-hr-prior test.
If so, not worth it. Sorry, Beautiful Victoria and Butchart. We had a lot money to spend on ya.

Now we just need the US to reciprocate. Too bad there wasn't better vaccine coordination between the two countries.

Tests are free. I agree that I wouldn't do it in places where they can be painful (I had two bad experiences at one location) but there are cheek tests too. Why does that push the trip out of reach for you? Quick and easy.

The US does reciprocate at the Southern Border, no vaccine shots needed, free transportation to anywhere you like in America. No id needed. All thanks to the most popular president in History.

It's not the cost. We did the free tests, prior to flying to Hawaii...twice. They worked out well, though we had to drive 1 1/2 hrs for the tests. Maybe quicker and easier for others, though. I had also planned to pre-pay our hotel and Tsawwassen ferry trips. Too risky getting test results in time, border crossing delays, border police labor issues.
We'll wait until later.

Just to add: Why do they want a 72hr test, if I can prove I'm fully vaccinated? I could catch the covid, sitting in line at the border, or anytime during the prior 3 days. Why prove vaccination, if they want a test anyway?

Their border, their rules. No one in Canada cares how you would run things if you could take over their government.

You have a perfect opportunity to stay home if you don't like their rules. There are lots of nice places to vacation right here inside the borders of the USA.
