Starbucks has lost a lot of it's business to competitors, period. That they have become the Walmart of coffee isn't any surprise, it was always Howard's dream to be the king of overpriced coffee, but even kings get dethroned every now and then. The anti union posturing that overshadows today's corporate labor policies hasn't missed the Starbucks offices, and it's possible that these closures have some ties to those issues.

One thing most of us agree on is the fact that Starbucks isn't the only game in town, and most can agree that the price of coffee has reached ridiculous heights, so it doesn't look too rosy for those companies that really believe they have some kind of lock on expensive frivolities. There is however one group that will rejoice in the news of store closures, those who see the signs of the end times in every news story that could be construed as such will certainly be telling us how this is only--the beginning of the end.

Are you sure? Almost a tripling in revenue over the past 10 years in spite of the pandemic. And record current employment levels in spite of unions and attrition.

I remember a time, when fancy coffee was ordered in sizes called "short" and "tall". I guess "tall" is now "grande". Or maybe "grande" is beyond tall. Maybe "grande" is "pig-out" size, LOL!! Sorry, Andy. I'm always behind the times with these specialized lingos.

Is it still any size for $1? I used to get a tankard of it on the way to work. It lasted all day.

I never knew the terminology for sizes at Starbucks.

I find the pseudo Italian names for sizes oh-so "cosmopolitan "

Starbucks coffee is just average. Their hold on the market, at least here in Seattle, really lies in their drive-thru and fast-food concepts. Other fun drinks (fruity), good sandwiches and pastries, etc.

However, I cannot abide a company that tries to take down its customer base and founding city when it closes underperforming stores that have likely suffered from mismanagement for a few years. I'm done with Starbucks until their rhetoric turns a corner.

Yeah they're still on top, but with the stock stumbling and it's labor troubles, cracks are appearing. Many other giants have been toppled by the competition, and usually aided by their own incompetence. A fickle public combined with an even more fickle investor crowd, will always be the nemesis of growth dependent enterprise and SB can't sustain the chipping away at its bottom line forever. In my area of Wa state the SB stores have taken a big hit from their competition, Black Rock, Brewed Awakenings, Dutch Bros, and a large number of independent shops who make good coffee at decent prices.

My main point was that SB"s leaving an area isn't the end times manifestation some would make it out to be, SB has closed over five hundred stores and opened more in past years, so a few closings could be taken as business as usual for the world's largest coffee roaster. I can't speak for others but, I haven't been in a SB in years, the main product, their coffee, isn't the best, nor is it even in the running when considering the much better coffee at lower prices offered by the growing competition.

This is much ado about nothing. Although that area around the Olive Way Capitol Hill location has become much sketchier in the past year or so. The rest have been sketchy for way longer.

I go to Starbucks when I'm out traveling, but I rarely ever go to a Starbucks in Seattle. There are way better options for coffee here.

My town in CA used to have a micro coffee roaster.
I would get a cup and sometimes top it off with a shot of espresso to start my day.
The coffee roasting smell started late at night but we could still smell it close to sunrise.
I thought it was great.
There is really no residential units in Danville but sure enough after 10 or so years somebody complained and the shop had to be shut down.
What a shame.
Having a coffee roaster is such a great service to a town.
So much better than a corporate shop.
If you have one near you consider yourself fortunate.
