Uhh AK, your beautiful leg is being pulled... Why? I think probably because the question, the idea, is so ummm foreign to this area.

Yes. The Russkies are building strength from Tacoma up through Tukwila. Have been for the last 20 years, noticeably for the last 10 years. Russian hookers and pimps are now visible in the normal areas, whereas before there were few. Police are not equipped to respond quickly to such activity. Expect it to grow. And stay away from the Russian whores...

FWIW, on another local forum I frequent (Motorcycle related), there have been a bunch of recent bike thefts in the south end. When one of the bikes was recovered, the story from the recovering officer that the theft was related to some Russian mafia guys that hang out at some Starbucks in Federal Way.

Then again, this entire story boils down to hearsay I read (and then repeated) on the Internet

With a user name like AK 47u, he/she might be doing the pulling.

As much as people want to joke about it, there are elements of Russian organized crime in the Seattle area. Probably more than you realize. Back in highschool, a few Russian and Ukrainian kids got mixed up with the wrong people and were running drugs across the Canadian border. They were driving nice cars to school, way out of the reach of a teenager. Eventually they were caught, and I wouldn't be surprised if some of them were still serving sentences.

goes with the territory, people in Seattle and WA dont want to admit that they have a growing problem with organized crime and instead tries to downplay it by comparing their gang activities to cities 4 or 5 times the size of Seattle

People, there is crime everywhere. Are there Russian Mafiosi here? Possibly. Are there crimes involving immigrants from Russia and/or those with Russian surnames? Yes. Is there a problem with the Russian mob? Not that I've ever heard of. I would be much more concerned about Bloods, Crips and Asian gangs than I would about Russians.

This is probably one of the more ludicrous questions I have seen on this board and there have been some duesies.

I moved here three years ago and my husband was in real estate ---wholesale market. He was warned about the Russian organized crime by a friend who has lived here for years and was the head of a mortgage company. Guess what happened---he was scammed by a group but caught it in time so did not loose a bunch of money.
So we are believers and they are alive and well in Bellevue but they are after the big bucks not the little stuff.

Given, the Russian mob is nothing next to Chicago's crime families (yes they are real), but they do kill people.
