I have lived in 'burbs my life; moving from Portland OR area. Would like to know areas I should focus on that offer decent rentals for <~$1.2K/mo. Don't care about apartment 'community' amenities as much as quiet units, walkable area, larger space, well-kept building and good transit connections into Seattle (I do have a car, but like to keep options open). If I had my druthers I'd live in Seattle proper - but will not, due to the commute-hell. Where can I find a place to rent that offers a good mix of social venues for myself (I need to get out and meet people more!) - versus quiet sleepy distant 'burb. I'll be working in N. Redmond. Thanks in advance for your kind inputs!

Try northwest Capitol Hill area if you change your mind about Seattle. Your commute might suck but you can't go wrong living close to Broadway.

But as quick commute and walkable, then you're looking at Downtown Bellevue and Downtown Kirkland. I vote for Downtown Kirkland since the night life is better there.
