I am a young professional moving to Seattle in June 2009. I am looking to purchase a two bedroom condo for around $300K. I would like to be near the following hospitals:

1. UW Medical Center
2. Puget Sound VA Medical Center
3. Harborview Medical Center

What neighborhoods would be the most preferable to live? My girlfriend and I are interested in moving to an area with other professionals between 25-40 years old. We are not necessarily interested in living in a family focused area. It would be ideal to live near restaurants/shops and a social scene.

I would appreciate your help. Thanks!

Capitol Hill would be a neighborhood with restaurants/shops/social scene and in between Harborview and UW Medical Center, not far from VA Medical center, and not thought of as a family focused area.

I strongly suggest renting for a while, if only to get a better feel for the town before you commit to a purchase. But whenever you buy, I recommend you hire Ira500 above as your agent--on another board esp., he seems super smart, realistic, and honest, a rare combination in a real estate agent.

Thanks for the advice. Are there any other neighborhoods you also suggest focusing my search on? My main need is to be about 20 minutes from all hospitals. I really appreciate the help.

Second on Capital Hill, maybe Queen Anne or Freemont, but that'd be pushing the envelope with traffic. The U-District is about as convenient as Capital Hill but is much younger than 25-40. All three are young and trendy, with plenty of nightlife and convenient access to downtown.

Third on Capitol Hill. It's not perfect but should suit your needs well. It's one of my favorite areas of Seattle. I'd look around 15th St., which is not as crowded or seedy as Broadway, has its own restaurants and is still close to Broadway and future light rail.

North Beacon Hill would be a ittle closer to the VA Hospital, but also a real easy trip to Harborview, and a little further to UW..A quieter area that might be a little less expensive and has been dramatically improving in recent years, and will have a major light rail station there scheduled to open this summer.
