Another vote for Ray's Boathouse (get out the wallet) and a HUGE thumbs up for Steelhead Diner. McCormicks is always reliably good too.

I would advise against going to McCormick's. You could do much better here...

For upscale I really like the Brooklyn and Elliot Bay Oyster House, especially the happy hour at Elliot Bay.

But, really, you can't miss the Blackened Salmon Sandwich at the Ballard Brothers Seafood and Burgers (in Ballard on 15th). Its a hole in the wall counter service type place, but that Salmon burger is the best you'll ever have. Then, if you enjoy a good beer, head over to the People's Pub on Ballard Aveue for a good local microbrew!

what about buying seafood (to cook yourself)..is PP the place to get the best, or do local grocery stores offer good stuff as well?

The seafood at regular supermarkets doesn't tend to be as good as the fish markets at Pike Place, but there are a few really good fish markets not in Pike Place, like University Seafood, Mutual Fish on Rainier, and Uwajimaya.

We have McCormick's and Schmidt's here in Columbus. Maybe they use fresher seafood in Seattle than here, but...blah.

Second vote for seafood bought at Uwajimaya. In fact, that's the only place we buy fresh seafood from, and we live within arm's reach of 4 different grocery stores.

Ray's Boathouse is tops! Food was excellent, the service friendly and efficient. One of my favorite places to visit when in the Seattle area.
