People in developed countries today are in far better health than at any time in the past.

.

The debate is politically motivated with little regard to the science.

Keep in mind that H.sapiens evolved in equatorial Africa. We're built to handle heat very well. As our ancestors moved out of Africa to cooler environments, they adapted not by changes in the gene pool, but by changing the environment.

To remain healthy in a heat wave, one only needs a couch in the shade, a mist of water and a Nubian slave waving a large ostrich feather over one's head. Surviving a cold spell is more problematic.

Many of us survived hot summers before the days of air conditioning. A future power outage may put many of us outside our comfort zones, but few lives will actually be endangered. We'll get used to it quickly.

Avian Flu Diary: The Heat Is On For This Weekend

Just a note that the article I linked is a wonderful condensation of the dozens of articles he links to.

Agreed. Because of electricity and modern inventions we have "tamed" inhospitable environments. For example the cities in the American Southwest will instantly become barren waste lands if power was suddenly lost. We are far more dependent upon heating, air conditioning, city water services, sanitation etc..

Most house now don't even have wood burning fireplaces or wood stoves. They would be nothing more than an icebox in northern winter's.
