I've noted that some posters are now including a "leatherman tool" which also includes that knife blade I feel everyone needs. For a good many people a leatherman is all they will ever need so if you don't care to carry a pocket or stout knife then at least consider carrying a Leatherman.

Hmmm number one would be flashlight and some sort of mask/bandana. Then
a food item (granola bars etc).
This is only to get home not head out for days.

Pack with your basics like duct tape, knives, firesteel, snare wire, poncho, space blanket, multitool, SAK, matches + fuel, LED, filter, hat, insect spray + sunscreen, LOTS of paracord, hand chainsaw, fold out saw, heavy duty foil, charcloth, container for boiling, water purification drops, needle and thread, gloves, 4 compasses, a whistle, magnify glass,dryer lint, gallon bags for water, bandana, Medical supplies, Some other things I can't remember at the moment.
