What is UP with the latest store trends of the "tissue weight" shirts. The material is SO thin to be almost like a pair of nylons. You could run these shirts with a fingernail.
And to sell these they are actually using the marketing spin term "tissue weight"? Which Means: the cheapest possible material we could make clothing out of...
You can see through this stuff. It looks like it would last about 3 washings. Is disposable wear-once clothing in our future?!
Really terrible. One big box store is particularly egregious.
I love the J. Crew tissue weight t-necks. They are not see-through but thin enough to layer comfortably. I really haven't seen them any where else so I can't comment on what else is out there.
I suppose it totally depends on the price. If they're dirt cheap, they could be great for layering or travel. Wear and Toss. If they're pricey, it's ridiculous.
I just was looking at these yesterday at Target and thought holy crap is my money NOT buying this soon to be holey crap.. Man it's like they are getting at least three shirts out of the material of one. Won't last through one washing because what young girl is going to hand wash? Another great job by the manufacturers of high fashion crap.
I got a bunch of them on sale at Target years ago and they have held up great..course I don't wear them every day... layering, yes, but I wear them around the house and yard in summer..so cool and comfortable
OK, I had to do a double check on my J. Crew stuff just to see. I'm too lazy to go upstairs to look a the t-necks but I have a t-shirt handy. It's thin but not see-through, and I bought it on sale for about $19.99 a few months ago. Granted it has not been washed several times but if it holds up like the turtle-necks have it was definitely a "bargain". I'm going to Target later today so I will look at what they have so I can compare. I like the concept of tissue weight more for winter because it allows for layering without bulk. Don't really get "it" for summer wear though.
You have to be really careful when wearing really thin material--any backfat, and it shows something awful! Heavierweight fabric really keeps that from happening!
Yeah, I see girls wearing them and you can see every brastrap lump. Not too attractive. Although I could see the value in layering with them.
