I hope this is in the right forum.

I searched for a cooking forum but no luck.

Should I buy the George Foreman Grill for $24 or is there a good alternative?

I watched a Youtube review and demo by an independent YT viewer and was impressed.

Pardon my ignorance.

TIA.

All I know is I bought one for my grandson in college and he loves it. When I told my hairstylist what I got my grandson, she told me she got one for a wedding gift 18 years ago and they’ve used it almost every day.

My advise would be to make sure the model you get is easy to clean. I think in some models, the grill doesn’t come off for cleaning.

Yes, definitely get a model with removable plates. I can't imagine trying to clean the thing without them.

Cheers for the response, gentlearts.

Those are good reports.

Yes, the model I'm interested in has 2 (top & bottom) removable no-stick plates. Easy to clean. The Youtube demo showed this.

I basically want to use it like a rice cooker (but won't leave the house while the grill is cooking).

I can put in the chicken or any meat, get ready for work, take a shower, and then take it out when when it's does instead if cooking it in the pan on the stove. I'll any other things as well, such as sandwiches etc.

It's not really a 'set it and forget it' kind of appliance. I still watch mine to make sure it doesn't burn. I wouldn't leave it to go get ready for work. It doesn't take terribly long ... I use the time to cook the rest of the food or clean up the kitchen.

If your circumstances don't allow you to have an outdoor grill, then that is probably a good choice.

Read reviews. Some people complain that the removable plates don't stay put...

Thanks for the additional replies, and also elnina's comment on another thread.

I'm on the fence now.

I am not sure I would go for one that is only $24 but we do have a griddle that I love except it is more like an outdoor grill so it isn't 2 sided. Still it is used quite often, but not as easy to clean up as the George F or some others. If it were me I would splurge for a Griddler. That was what I used to have. My problem was it was stored in a low cabinet and it was a bit heavy and awkward to handle.
