I tried these. As we used it more, the middle became more frayed and torn up. I forget the name of the brand.

Have you found this doesn't work so great? Which brands do this?

Do they do it to paper towels also?

I’ve only ever seen that in commercial toilet paper. You’re supposed to pull it from the center on the commercial rolls I get for work. It’s called center pull. However, I don’t think that would work for a regular household toilet paper holder.

I don't remember the brand, but a common one, and I had no problems. I thought it was a good idea.

We just throw the paper roll in the reclycling bin. When we had gerbils, they enjoy those for running thru, hiding, or chewing up for resting spots. I'm not sure which.maybe all but the rolls do ultimately get chewed up.

'Flagship' toilet paper. Kimberly-Clark is the first and only maker of toilet paper without cardboard tubes. Scientists at its Wisconsin facilities designed and patented a way to make the paper roll up around a stiff, hollow center that would hold its shape during packaging and transport.
https://www.nytimes.com/2020/02/28/b...let-paper.html

This evolution is part of Kimberly-Clark’s broader goal of being more environmentally friendly and reducing the waste that comes from consumers throwing away the tubes, not to mention the last few sheets of toilet paper that usually get stuck to it.

You can still buy it on Amazon:

These rolls are still out there for sale. I have some. They unroll, like typical paper but you can't mount them on a holder.

You need to be very careful giving toilet paper cores to pets that chew. The adhesives some brands use are quite toxic! They were never intended to be edible.

I found a clever use of those cardboard rolls and when I get new drapes I will try it.

Never heard of the danger of toxic glue in the core but it does make sense. The county shelter I volunteered at used to ask for donations of these inner cardboard rolls for the dogs and cats to play with. Once in a while I've let my own dogs play with them but they never ate them. Good to know.
