My barely two year old LA115 is in the shop right now. It won't start; I adjusted the valves and it still wouldn't start. Turns out the compression release is bad and will cost over $800 to fix. The dealer said the same thing happened to his. I've had good luck with Deere over the years and bought it because it's green but this has really soured me on the brand. They have used customer loyalty and brand recognition to sell cheap junk. Has anybody else had this problem?
I have a John Deere riding mower with an aftermarket 48" cut deck. It is pretty old (I got it from my grandparents after they used it for several years). My main complaint is that reverse is pretty slow. The other problem I have noticed is with the hood. The hood flips forward, and it is made of thin plastic. If you don't lower the hood slowly, it will slam down and crack the hood. We rigged up a chain to catch the hood before it goes all the way forward and cracks near the hinges where it is supporting most of the weight.
My son bought a John Deer LA125,OHV 21 Horse,with a G4 crank shaft,after 4-5 yrs,started burning oil,all of a sudden,now he wants to rebuild it. Seams too new for that.
the person with the JD 1-130,if it has a back up release while mower blade are engaged ,
you might want to check the switch for too much wear.If you have one on yours. Not really shire,but it is a starting place to look. I am getting back into working on small engines after many years,helping my son in a garage .

Reason: the switch is for running backwards with blades running
