I have a landline and just got a cell phone for Christmas. It's one of those pay as you go things. I've used it four times so far - on vacation when flights got delayed and when my daughter needed a ride home. I'm not really into it probably because of all the rude users out there that make waiting rooms, shopping, and driving so annoying.
BTW my father was walking in a crosswalk last week when a woman on her cell phone ran into him and kept going. She said she thought she might have hit something and when she looked in her rearview mirror she thought she saw a guy flip through the air. She didn't turn around and come back to the scene of the accident until she heard/saw the police. Thankfully my dad survived, but he got banged up pretty good.
Since I live in an area with frequent tornadoes and even hurricanes, and certainly thunderstorms, I do have a corded landline. The only reason I have a cell phone is because I travel 3 days a week to work that is round-trip 80 miles, mostly before daylight, and I'm unlikely to find a working pay phone on my route. If I didn't have that trip to make, I would not have a cell phone at all--hate the little intrusive and expensive gadgets!
My how things have changed since my last post here in 2007. Now we have only cell phones. I'm looking into Google Voice to use in place of a home phone, but really haven't figured out how to do that yet.
We dropped our landline two years ago and have cellphones only. We have an M-Cell from ATT, it's a mini cell tower basically and gives us five bars in the house. It hooks into our router and uses the internet and our home address is registered on it for 911 calls. DH's work provides his cell phone and the M-Cell. We text more than talk these days.
