BEIJING (AP) - The discovery has punched a 170-ton hole in China's promises to overhaul its food safety system. Officials say they've found yet another case where large amounts of tainted milk powder from the country's 2008 scandal that should have been destroyed were instead repackaged.

No surprise here! Honesty and integrity doesn't seem to be part of the culture. Remember to vote with your dollars people-- and don't buy Chinese (unless you like toxic chemicals in your food, cheap plastic crap that falls apart, and thousands of your countrymen not being able to find a job...)

Don't agree that Chinese are taking away American jobs but more and more people, including academics, are wondering about the the relationship between Chinese culture and Chinese products.

Chinese are extremely family oriented. Some say (Lin Yutang) that this orientation leads to corruption (nepotism) and disregard for society. Chinese are concerned about family above all else, so that screwing over society for family gain is acceptable.

Paul Midler's book Poorly Made in China also links Chinese culture to Chinese business practices.

I'm usually critical of attacks on Chinese products as jingoistic posturing but this second milk scandal is very disturbing. I've also become wary of Chinese products.
