My wife and I have committed to moving to Sioux Falls. We're very excited to be on our way!!! I was born there but left when I was 7 or 8.
We've visited a few times for job interviews for my wife and I and I'm writing to ask if any of you out there have insight on places to apply.
My wife's area is Quality Management in the Food Production field. She's applied at John Morrel but we weren't very excited at having to start at the bottom of the career ladder again. She was told that promotions and raises are all based on seniority...not performance based. My wife is very good at what she does and we turned down a management position that paid 57K a year. We turned it down because we didn't like the area the job was in and wanted to move to Sioux Falls. So, are there any other fields or positions that her skills would translate well to? Are there other food manufacturers in the area?? She has ten years of lab experience..writing SOP's and supervising lab techs. HAACP certified. Too many qualifications for me to remember or list here.
I have a B.S. degree in business with an Accounting major. I am an expert in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Access. I was working as an Office Manager most recently and was a GL Accountant prior to that. Very well versed in monthly financial analysis, accounts payable, accounts receivable. I was responsible for benefits and payroll as the office manager at my last position.
We have both posted our resumes and have gotten some bites but would welcome any advice on specific companies to apply to. I am currently studying to get my A+ Certification.
I'd also check out snag a job and jobs.net and careerbuilder and monster.
You probably already know that we're a fairly low wage state and I'm wondering if any company will be able to match the 57,000 starting salary that your wife was offered.
Thanks for the information. We won't try to match that kind of salary...it was due in part because the position was smack dab in the center of the devils armpit and they can't find qualified applicants. I haven't heard of snag a job...I'll check that out.
As for accountants, I would suggest Eide Bailly or McGladrey. Both are the larger firms. Eide Bailly is a growing accounting firm and has being going strong for the past few years. It would not hurt to check Wells Fargo, Citibank, or First Premier Bankcard.
