I think the British get annoyed with it because we invented the sport and we named it football. And then after, America made it's own version of football.
Maybe it's something to do with the fact that football = kicking the ball and your one involves more throwing of it, who knows?

It's really not that bigger deal. When speaking to people from America or NZ i just call it soccer so they don't think i'm talking about NFL.

It's not... but soccer fans in America tend to take it to heart.

Doesn't matter what you call it, United still beat Arsenal today and that's what counts!

I live here in NM too but I am from England, I refer to it as footie or football as I did all my life, I have no objection to it being called soccer though. I do object to all the new Chelsea fans who claim to have been Chelsea fans all their lives though, that really gets on my nerve.

They swapped the blue of Blackburn for the blue of Chelsea.

I agree we have a lot of bandwagon fans too though.

It's a location thing.

It depends on what part of the world you live in. Whether you use football or Soccer. There is not right or wrong answer. It's about location.

This is a really dumb argument. Things are called different things in different places. Soda, Pop, Coke.
